GOSHEN – As classes are about to begin for the fall 2016 semester, the SUNY Orange budget is less than that of this past year.  The county legislature Tuesday approved the $60.2 million spending plan with a $17.9 million county contribution.
College President Dr. Kristine Young said the college has been following the trend of other community colleges with declining enrollments in recent years, but the tide is changing.
“It is a continuing trend, but today at the college, we are down, but less than we have been in recent semesters and recent years so we are hopeful that this may be the year that things turn around for SUNY Orange and for all community colleges,” Young said.
The county contribution to the SUNY Orange budget is roughly one-third with the remainder funded through tuition and state aid.
