SAUGERTIES – Ulster County Sheriff’s deputies arrested an
Ulster Park man after a high-speed chase through the Town of Saugerties.

At about 7:45 p.m. on August 18, Ulster deputies observed a suspicious
motorcycle on Route 9W in the Town of Saugerties driving erratically and
attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The motorcycle failed to stop, continued
to drive recklessly and committed numerous traffic violations.

Deputies lost sight of the motorcycle, but a concerned resident called
the sheriff’s office and reported that the motorcycle was in the area
of Avon Street. Deputies then observed it exiting Avon street turning
onto Route 9W, and then Garden Circle.

The operator, Christopher North, 18, was located near the motorcycle which
he abandoned at the bottom of a driveway on Dominican Lane. He was taken
into custody after requesting a “ride” from a plain clothes
deputy sheriff who had responded to the area.

North was charged with obstructing governmental administration, unlawful
fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, reckless endangerment, and
reckless driving, all as misdemeanors, and several traffic violations.

North was committed to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $1,500 cash bail
or $3,000 bond.
