TOWN OF RHINEBECK – A Dover man was killed in a one-car crash on Slate Quarry Road in the Town of Rhinebeck late last Saturday night. The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as Christopher Watkins, 30, of Dover Plains.
When deputies were called to the scene of the 11:30 p.m. crash, they found a car off the road with Watkins inside. He was transported to MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie where he later died.
The investigation revealed that he was eastbound on Slate Quarry when he lost control, crossed into the westbound lane, ran off the road and stuck a fence and pole before coming to rest on the shoulder of the road.
Failure to keep right appears to be the primary factor in the crash, Sheriff’s Office Captain John Watterson said.
The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the Town of Rhinebeck Fire Department.
