WASHINGTON — US Senator Charles Schumer is lobbying US Attorney General
Loretta Lynch to back a $500,000 federal grant to hire four additional
police officers in the City of Newburgh. The funds are within the Department
of Justice’s COPS Hiring Program.
Newburgh would use the additional officers to increase patrols in areas
with the highest incidences of gun violence and to build trust and cooperation
with area residents and local businesses.
The city won a $500,000 COPS grant in 2014 allowing the police department
to hire four additional cops.
