VILLAGE OF MONROE – Heavy rains and flooding forced Monroe’s summer annual village carnival to be canceled on Sunday.
Mayor James Purcell send out an email early Sunday afternoon saying it had been canceled because of the weather.
The rides and attractions in Crane Park became surrounded by rising flood waters along Millpond Parkway creating a dangerous situation.
The four-day carnival was supposed to continue through Sunday evening, but workers packed up early in the afternoon.
Organizers said they hope to bring back the carnival in a couple of weeks.
