ALBANY – The state’s law that requires motorists to move over as they approach police cars, fire trucks, ambulances and other emergency services vehicles has now been expanded to include volunteer firefights and ambulance workers.
The measure signed by the government requires drivers to slow down and move over a lane when approaching a vehicle with flashing blue or green lights that are operated by volunteer firefighters or ambulance works involved in a roadside emergency.
Area firefighters and EMS workers lauded the addition to the law.
The Thruway, Interstate 84, Route 17 and the Taconic State Parkway are among the highways in the region covered by the law.
