GOSHEN – The Orange County Soil and Water Conservation District
has been awarded $337,755 in state funds to implement best management
conservation practices to address agricultural water quality concerns
on 10 farms in the Wallkill River watershed.

The Wallkill River is classified as stressed under the state Department
of Environmental Conservation’s Priority Waterbodies List.

Conservation practices to be implemented include a wide variety of practices
from erosion control practices to agrichemical storage and handling system.

Those systems will keep nutrients and other pollutants out of the watershed
while helping the farm remain economically viable.

The Orange County award was one of 42 recently announced statewide worth
$13.1 million.
