Visiting teen shot in Poughkeepsie

POUGHKEEPSIE – A 17-year-old youth who was visiting Poughkeepsie
from Virginia sustained a gunshot wound to his right arm when shots rang
out early Wednesday morning.

City Police said were alerted around 2:25 a.m. to shots fired in the area
of Thompson and North Hamilton streets. Officers located several shell
casings on the ground in front of 14 Thompson; witnesses said they heard
five or six shots and saw several people get into a gray vehicle and drive
off.

A short time later a local hospital called reporting a gunshot victim
was in the emergency room being treated for a non-life threatening wound
to his arm.

The victim told police he was hanging out with friends on Thompson Street
when the shots rang out and he was hit. He said he had no idea why he
was shot or by whom. His friends could provide no information either.
