HUDSON VALLEY – Republican John Faso will face Democrat Zephyr Teachout in November in the 19th Congressional District. Faso defeated businessman Andrew Heaney in the GOP primary.  Teachout beat Will Yandik on the Democrat line.
There is no incumbent in that race as Republican Christopher Gibson is retiring to become a college professor.
Faso, a former state assemblyman said Tuesday night the direction in Washington must be changed. “This election will be about common-sense America fighting back against the progressive left elitists who want to control all aspects of our lives an our national economy,” he said.
Teachout is a college law professor. “I’m not a lobbyist like John Faso, so I don’t have rich friends on Wall Street or in Washington who can pour millions of dollars into a super PAC,” she said after her primary win.Democratic 18th District Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney will be challenged in November by Republican Philip Oliva. Oliva defeated Kenneth Del Vecchio in the GOP primary election on Tuesday. Oliva, a staffer in Westchester County Executive Robert Astorino’s office, said if elected to the 18th District seat, he would not become a career politician and would serve no more than four two-year terms.
