NEW YORK – Port Authority police have added high visibility patrols equipped with tactical weapons and equipment at Kennedy, LaGuardia and Newark Liberty airports in the wake of Tuesday’s attack on the Istanbul airport.
Three suicide bombers killed 41 and wounded at least 230 others, according to the latest information late Wednesday morning.
A statement by the Port Authority said it “continues to monitor the situation in Turkey and is collaborating with federal, state and local law enforcement partners to include the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force.”
The agency said Tuesday’s heightened action “is in addition to the diverse counter-terrorism patrols at various Port Authority facilities following the attack on an Orlando club earlier this month.”
State Police are responsible for security at Stewart Airport at Newburgh and they, too, are on alert to any potential issues.
