FISHKILL – An 84-year-old Poughquag woman died following a two-car
crash on I-84 at exit 13 in Fishkill on Saturday afternoon.
State Police identified the victim as Mary Haggerty.

Police said Haggerty and a car driven by Andre Jenkins, 43, of Mahopac,
were both traveling northbound in the interstate at 1 p.m. when Jenkins
was attempting to leave the highway at the exit. Haggerty, who was traveling
in the left lane, crossed over all lanes for an unknown reason and struck
the rear driver’s quarter panel of Jenkins’ car causing it
to flip onto its roof and slide down the right shoulder of the road. Haggerty’s
vehicle then flipped over the guide rail and traveled roughly 150 yards
down an embankment before it came to rest.

Haggerty was transported to Saint Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh
where she was pronounced dead.

Jenkins and his seven-year-old son were transported to St. Luke’s
by EMStar ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the crash
is asked to contact State Police Wappinger BCI at 845-677-7300.
