SAUGERTIES – A Saugerties man was charged with disorderly conduct and reckless endangerment after he caused a commotion at the Horses in the Sun competition on Sunday.
Saugerties Police said that Derek Legoff, 35, was acting in a bizarre manner that endangered the welfare of a number of young riders in the competition ring.
Legoff allegedly was throwing debris over the arena fence and onto a competition ring and also used his vehicle to scare the ponies by revving his engine and spinning tires, causing rocks and dust to go in the direction of the ponies and the 14 and younger HITS pony ring while the children were in the ring.  Police also said Legoff began using a laser pointer, shining the beam into the eyes of ponies while the children were riding on them.
At the time of his arraignment, Legoff was issued an order from the court to stay away from any and all HITS property and employees.
