KINGSTON – First quarter sales tax revenue in Ulster County was some five percent above the same period last year. That means just over $1.2 million more than 2015.
The 20 towns and villages of Saugerties and Ellenville will split $774,102, up from $737,506 during the first three months of last year. The City of Kingston received close to $3 million for the same quarter.
Half of the county’s 8 percent sales tax goes to the state while the remainder is divided by the county and its municipalities as per a sharing agreement.
Currently 85.5 percent of the county’s share is retained by the county with the City of Kingston getting 11.5 percent and the 22 municipalities sharing the remaining 3 percent.
