MONTICELLO – A Liberty man has been indicted on a charge of murder for allegedly shooting and killing his wife.
Sullivan County District Attorney James Farrell said the crime began with a domestic dispute.
Jorge Gonzalez, 66, allegedly shot Ramona Gonzalez, 30, in the head with a shotgun in a wooded area off Willow Heights Road in the Town of Fallsburg. The murder occurred on February 4.
The victim’s body was found by investigators two days later in the woods.  He was arrested after an investigation by Liberty Village Police, Fallsburg Town Police, State Police and the Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office.
Gonzalez is charged with murder, criminal possession of a weapon and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. The endangering charge stems from two incidents where he left their two-month-old daughter alone, once in their house and once in their car, Farrell said.
If convicted, Gonzalez faces 25 years to life in state prison.  He is being held in the Sullivan County Jail.
