Nevele, and its once

dormant golf course

ELLENVILLE – The destination sports complex now planned at the site of the former Nevele Hotel in the Ellenville-Wawarsing is expected to break ground this summer.
Project lead partner Michael Treanor, who lost his bid to develop the site as one of the state-approved casinos, said this project is more sustainable and will do much to revitalize the depressed area of Ulster County.
“Young athletes and their families will be swarming all over southern Ulster County looking for things to do. I am sure a bunch of the parents will want to over to Monticello and visit the fabulous casino-resort they are building over there so we will generate business for them,” he said.
Treanor said the destination sports complex will cost $170 million to build. Final documents should be ready for a state consolidated funding application this summer with construction to begin in mid to late summer. He called the project “the poster project” for a public-private partnership.
