MIDDLETOWN – It’s that time of year when signs advertising yard sales and other activities crop up on utility poles faster than the grass grows, and Middletown Mayor Joseph DeStefano has issued a warning about them.
Those signs are illegal and violators will face the consequences, the mayor said.
“You cannot post your signs in a public area advertising your business or your event or anything of that nature,” DeStefano said. That is considered littering and the police will handle those.
Illegal signs posted on public places will result in fines while yard sale signs posted on public locations will result in the loss of a person’s $50 yard sale permit deposit.
“When it is a yard sale, we will take your deposit,” the mayor warned.
