CARMEL – Volunteers spent
Saturday at Putnam Hospital Center accepting prescription medications
that people no longer needed.

The event in Carmel was sponsored by the Communities that Care Coalition,
the Putnam County Health Department and Sheriff’s Office.

Some 500 pounds of unwanted prescription and non-prescription drugs were
turned in by over 150 county residents and later incinerated, according
to the Care Coalition’s Bruce Kelly. Ten percent were controlled
substances.

Officials urge people to bring them to their municipal government buildings
where drop off units are available. They should not be flushed down the
toilet as they could pollute water sources.
