Former Fishkill prison inmate charged with possession of weapon

FISHKILL – An inmate at Mid-State Correctional Facility has been charged with felony promoting prison contraband for possessing a weapon while previously incarcerated at Fishkill Correctional Facility. He was transferred after the weapon was discovered last December.
Rahmel Smith, 26, was charged by State Police after the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision Office of Special Investigations looked into the matter.
Smith was arraigned in Fishkill Town Court and returned to state prison pending a future court appearance.
