TOWN OF ESOPUS – An entrrepreneur has plans to transform the former
Christian Brothers monastery on the Hudson River in the Town of Esopus
into a destination distillery.
Town Supervisor Diane McCord said the plans will place the 27 acres on the tax rolls for the first time and become a draw to visitors to the area.
“He is going to create a boutique hotel and craft distillery only
1 1/2 hours from New York City which will create bourbon, vodka and gin,
utilizing local ingredients,” Mcord said.
The proposal by Charles Ferri came before the Ulster County Industrial
Development Agency on Wednesday where he will be seeking financial incentives
including mortgage tax and sales tax exemptions and a payment-in-lieu
of taxes.
