MIDDLETOWN – Drivers and mechanics, who work for Mid-City Transit
Corp. and provide student transportation in the Middletown Enlarged City
School District could go on strike as early as this coming Thursday morning,
according to Teamsters Local 445 representative Jerry Ebert.

He said at the last negotiating session, workers were offered a 17-cent
per hour raise. “We have open negotiations, so nearly all the drivers
were present when the offer was made. They felt tremendously disrespected.”

The drivers are expected to vote whether to strike during negotiations
this coming Tuesday evening, Ebert said. The mechanics have already unanimously
approved a strike vote last month.

He said the union would alert the school district and media 18 hours before
the strike so that other transportation arrangements could be made.
The workers joined the Teamsters about a year ago and have been negotiating
since shortly thereafter.

“”We have been very patient and cooperative, but at this point,
enough is enough,” Ebert said.
