CATSKILL – A woman was killed as she walked into the path of an SUV as she walked on Route 296 in the Town of Jewett on Saturday.
State Police at Catskill said Francine Barbet, 78, was walking on Route 296 from County Route 23C when she walked into the path of the vehicle. Barbet was airlifted to Albany Medical Center where she died of her injuries.
The vehicle was operated by a 65-year-old Shirley man. No charges were filed against him.
The investigation is continuing.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, East Jewett Fire Department and Ashland Rescue Squad.
