LAGRANGE – A 39-year-old
man was struck by a car as he crossed Noxon Road at Route 55 in the Town
of LaGrange Tuesday night at 9:30.

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office said Matthew Wells of Poughkeepsie
was found unconscious lying on the ground with a car stopped n the roadway.

Wells was transported to MidHudson Regional Hospital with serious head
injuries that police said did not appear to be life-threatening.

Preliminary investigation by the sheriff’s office and State Police
found that a 2004 Toyota Camry being driven by a 27-year-old Poughkeepsie
woman was on Noxon Road attempting to make a left turn onto Route 55 when
Wells crossed the road and was struck.

Police said the primary contributing factor appears to be Wells’
failure to yield as he crossed the road. No charges were filed against
the driver of the car.

The investigation is continuing by the sheriff’s office crash Investigation
Unit. State Police and the LaGrange Fire Department assisted at the scene.
