Thruway shut down after truck hauling excavator strikes bridge overpass

CHESTNUT RIDGE – Inspectors
are looking over the Hungry Hollow Road bridge overpass as it goes over
the Thruway in Chester Ridge following an accident where a tractor-trailer
hauling a large excavator hit the structure knocking half of the machine
into the roadway.

Thruway at Chestnut Ridge is shut down Wednesday morning

The driver of the truck, Steven Canfield, 59, of Monroe, was not injured.

As a result of the accident minutes before 9 a.m., the superhighway was
closed down northbound until the crane is removed from the roadway.

The Rockland County Highway Department closed the Hungry Hollow Road from
Oriole Road to Old Nyack Turnpike pending completion if the inspection
of the integrity of the bridge.
