Suspicious fire under investigation at Bedford Hills prison for women

BEDFORD HILLS – The Westchester County Fire Cause and Origin Unit and the State Police at Somers are investigating a suspicious fire at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility, a woman’s prison.
At about 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday, December 29, an employee at the prison discovered smoke emanating from the maintenance garage on the exterior of the secure portion of the prison property.  The Bedford Hills Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire located in the locker room area of the building.
A civilian prison worker was treated and released at Northern Westchester Hospital with a complaint of dizziness.
The State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, Office of Special Investigations is assisting with the investigation.
