GOSHEN – Orange County’s
motor vehicle office in downtown Middletown will remain in the same location
for the foreseeable future.
The county had considered moving it to a city-owned former bank building
nearby, but County Executive Steven Neuhaus said he has signed a new lease
for the office space accessed through the James Street parking lot.
“I think it is an economic generator for downtown Middletown, Neuhaus said.  “We have individuals going to renew their driver license or whatever they are doing with DMV and they are also spending money and time in downtown Middletown.”
Neuhaus said the Middletown DMV is the busiest of the three offices in the county, the others being in Newburgh and Port Jervis.
The Goshen office, which was closed down with the county government center was shuttered some four years ago, will reopen once the government center is rebuilt. The center is undergoing partial demolition and reconstruction.
