MIDDLETOWN – A 164-unit apartment complex in the City of Middletown has taken a step forward as the city’s common council Monday night approved dividing the land for sale into two separate parcels.
Developer Jonah Mandelbaum wants to build “integrated” housing, apartments that would be available to senior citizens and workforce families.
He is buying the land from the Missionary Society, St. Albert’s, on Wawayanda Avenue, his attorney, Peter Botti, explained to the council.
“It’s more amendable for Mr. Mandelbaum to finance it broken into phase on and phase two, so he is going to finance the first section, 82 units and then somewhere within eight to 12 months of that time, finance the remaining section and built it out completely, so it’s just a financing matter,” Botti said.
The property is located off Orange County Route 78 on the city line.
The project still needs planning board approval.
