KINGSTON – With the election right around the corner, both of the primary Ulster County executive candidates have fresh endorsements.
Incumbent Democrat Michael Hein was endorsed by the New York State Nurses Association and fellow Democrat, County Comptroller Elliott Auerbach.
In 2011, Hein received the NYSNA District 11 Distinguished Service Award for his work on an innovative health agenda for county residents.
“When County Executive Mike Hein first came into office in 2009 the national financial crisis had hit Ulster County hard,” said Auerbach. “Since that time Mike has done a remarkable job completely turning around the county’s finances to a point that we are now on sound financial ground with the recommended reserve levels and the strongest bond rating the county has ever had.”
Bernardo received the endorsement of the New York State Police Chiefs Benevolent Association.
“Ms. Bernardo has been an ardent supporter of law enforcement,” said Eugene Tumolo, the association’s president. “She has earned the support of our group through her consistently fair and honest administration of a varied number of municipal positions, including her prior tenure as chair of the Ulster County Legislature.”
