Pedestrian killed after stepping onto Route 9 in Wappingers Falls

WAPPINGERS FALLS – A Poughkeepsie man was killed when he stepped off the sidewalk on Route 9 in Wappingers Falls and was struck by two cars.
State Police said at about 11 p.m. on Sunday, Brian Phillips, 26, stepped onto Route 9 on the west side of the road into the southbound traffic.
A Yorktown man was southbound on Route 9 and was unable to avoid striking Phillips. A second southbound vehicle, operated by a Croton-on-Hudson man, was also unable to avoid striking the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash was reconstructed by the State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.  State Police were assisted by Transcare Ambulance and the Dutchess County Medical Examiner.
