MONTICELLO – A Monticello man was arrested early Saturday morning after he was involved in a confrontation outside a local bar.
Village Police were called to a fight in progress outside the Nugget Bar on Broadway in Monticello and learned that Gabriel Rodriguez, 32, had been involved in an altercation before they arrived. He was being led away by friends, but continued to be belligerent and was advised several times by officers to leave. He disregarded the officers’ requests, pulled away from his friends and tried to strike another man.
A police officer injured his right elbow while subduing Rodriguez, bringing him to the ground and arresting him.
Rodriguez was charged with felony assault, misdemeanor obstructing governmental administration and a violation of disorderly conduct and sent to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail.
The officer was treated at Catskill Regional Medical Center and will be out of work until further notice due to his injury.
Monticello Police were assisted at the scene by State Police.
