TOWN OF WAWAYANDA – A Middletown man is charged with stealing items from cars in the Town of Wawayanda early Wednesday morning.
The Slate Hill area of the town has been the scene of several overnight larcenies from unlocked vehicles in the past few weeks resulting in intensified State Police patrols of the area.
At about 3:45 a.m., two troopers on patrol spotted Rahmel Hilton, 35, of Linden Avenue in Middletown lurking in front of a Post Road residence while dressed in all black clothing. He fled when officers approached, but was apprehended. Police recovered several items of property including wallets and credit cards that had not yet been reported stolen.
Hilton was charged with four counts of criminal possession of stolen property and sent to the Orange County Jail in lieu of bail.
State Police remind people to lock their homes and car doors overnight to prevent crimes of opportunity.
