WHITE PLAINS – A Mount Vernon man, who was a security guard supervisor
at the Levister Towers Apartment complex in Mount Vernon, was sentenced
Thursday in Westchester County Court to 17 years to life in prison for
killing a coworker who had been on the job for just 10 days.

Dontan Jenkins, 38, pled guilty to murder and criminal possession of a
weapon, both felonies in the shooting death of Richard Brown, who was
also a security guard at the facility.

During the less than two weeks Brown worked there, the two men had two
altercations including one on July 20, 2014 after another exchange of
words during a shift change.

At about 3:40 a.m. on July 21, Jenkins returned, approached Brown who
was manning the security guard booth and fired three shots through the
plexi-glass window killing him.

Mount Vernon Police investigated and arrested Jenkins a short time later.
