GOSHEN – A mosquito pool carrying the West Nile virus has been found in the Town of New Windsor, the Orange County Health Department confirmed Friday.
“As we have seen over the past few weeks with positive test results in various locations, West Nile virus is still present in the region,” said Health Commissioner Dr. Eli Avila.
Recently a mosquito pool carrying West Nike virus was discovered in Greenwood Lake.
Residents are advised to wear appropriate clothing and consider sprays when outdoors and check their property for any pool or stagnant water.
Mosquitoes can breed in stagnant water that lasts for more than four days. Officials advise residents to reduce or eliminate standing water around their homes.
