Holt: “… a growing critical mass”

KINGSTON – When Ulster County Executive Michael Hein says that the Hudson Valley is a great place to live, people do more than listen. Young upwardly mobile tech-savvy newcomers are transplanting themselves upstate from the Metropolitan area, bringing their families, careers, and fortunes for a new life in the country.
The influx is due, in part, to an ambitious marketing campaign launched in 2015, designed to target educated professionals seeking a fresh start in a new community.
Suzanne Holt, the director of the county Office of Economic Development,
outlined the campaign Tuesday at an Ulster County Chamber of Commerce
breakfast.  She said they are using tech-savvy businesspeople to
tell the county’s story.
“We have taken this target audience for a number of reasons,” Holt said. “Entrepreneurs and small business owners are more easily able to choose where to locate their businesses.  More importantly, there’s already a growing critical mass. We now have a great local tech entrepreneur community here, and they want more peers locally.”
Raleigh Green is one of those transplants, who was hired by Holt’s office to help with the “Doing Business Differently” campaign. ”The brand promise of Ulster County can be very easily summed up – we’re selling a lifestyle,” Green said.
