NEWBURGH – The City of Newburgh and its Broadway corridor demonstration project, in partnership with the Newburgh Community Land Bank, is moving ahead with plans to revitalize a major section of downtown Newburgh.
The effort will focus on different options for redesigning the Broadway corridor to improve safety, enhance green spaces and encourage sustainability.
Plans are being implemented by Safe Harbors of the Hudson for the redesign of the empty lot on the corner of Broadway and Liberty Street next to the Ritz Theatre. The vacant parcel will be transformed into a green, landscaped public space and will enhance the appeal of that area.
The project is also focusing on installation of new sidewalks between Broadway and Ann Street along with crosswalk markings for Liberty Street. Bike lanes and bike racks will also be set up to encourage people to use alternate forms of transportation.
Funding for the work is coming from a grant from Central Hudson through its Main Street Revitalization Program.
