BUCHANAN – Indian Point
Unit 3 was removed from service for a planned maintenance shutdown on
Monday evening to replace two water seals that sit between the lid of
the reactor and the reactor vessel.
Control room operators have been monitoring slight water leakage by the seals over the last several weeks and are acting conservatively and proactively to replace the seals out of an abundance of caution, company officials said.
There was no threat of release of radiation to the environment and no threat to public or worker health or safety as a result of the issue, the company said.
The plant will return to service when the maintenance work is complete.
Unit 2 is operating at full power.
