GOSHEN – The Orange County Legislature will meet in special session next Tuesday, September 15 to discuss this week’s approval of the annexation of 164 acres of land from the Town of Monroe to the Village of Kiryas Joel.
The county believes it was the wrong decision, citing several environmental issues that they maintain were inadequately or wrongfully addressed.
Legislature Chairman Stephen Brescia said the first step is to discuss what options may be available to the county.
“We want to be informed legally from counsel – the county attorney and county legislative attorney – about what we can or can’t do and whether we have standing to do anything or not,” Brescia said.
Lawmakers will discuss the possibility of authorizing retention of outside counsel to provide legal advice and to represent the county should officials decide to challenge the decision in the courts.
