RED HOOK – Fire at the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome in the Town of Red Hook Thursday afternoon destroyed the gift shop near the runway used for air shows.
Firefighters were called to the scene around 5:11 p.m. and within minutes it was fully engulfed in flames.
Employees who were at the Aerodrome when the fire started were able to remove vintage airplanes and automobiles from a hangar adjacent to the gift shop.  There were no injuries and no airplanes were damaged.
According to Red Hook Fire Chief Richard Hilbrandt said the fire was under control in less than a half hour, although firefighters remained on the scene well into the evening dousing hot spots.
The Dutchess County Fire Investigation Division was looking into the cause, but the fire is not considered suspicious.
Representatives on the Aerodrome said they plan to open for business on Friday with the aerial demonstrations and air shows going on as scheduled this weekend.
Between 35 and 40 firefighters were on the scene along with tanker trucks from Red Hook, Rhinebeck, Hillside, and Tivoli, due to the limited water supply at the Aerodrome.
Additional firefighters and equipment from Milan and West Clinton were on standby.
