SUFFERN – Over the past 30 years,
Patrick Heffernan of Suffern has donated a total of 15 gallons of blood.
The former Avon worker has donated to Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern
121 times as well as once elsewhere.
Heffernan began a blood drive at Avon, donating every few months during
his lunch break and has continuing to donate past his retirement. “If
you can, why not?” he said. “I enjoy it and enjoy being able
to give back.”
As an avid pin collector, Heffernan has received a pin for every gallon
of blood donated. His Avon hat is decorated with 15 pins, a collection
he hopes to expand to 16 and beyond.
