HUDSON – Two brothers were arrested Wednesday and charged with felony burglary after a state trooper observed suspicious activity at a local commercial business.
An investigation led to the arrests of James Smith, 44, of Greenport and his brother, Lellan Smith, 41, of Taghkanic. Both men are in the Columbia County Jail without bail.
Over the course of the month of July, there were several commercial burglaries spreading from Claverack to Greenport and north to Kinderhook.
Anyone with information on the burglaries is asked to call the State Police at Kinderhook as the investigation is still ongoing.
State Police and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office remind residents and business owners to ensure their properties are properly secured, use security lighting and consider property alarms for early detection and notification.
