BEACON – The City of Beacon will bond $1.5 million to convert all 1,417 street lights to LEDs.
Mayor Randy Casale said 449 of the current street lights are city-owned with the remainder owned by Central Hudson. The city will purchase all of those.
“We decided that they will award a contract to put all new LEDs lights on. The traffic lights that are not LED will become LED and the parking lot lights in the municipal center will become LED,” the mayor said.
The savings the city will make will pay for the 20-year bond with a surplus each year, Casale said. LEDs will make the city more energy efficient and reduce the carbon footprint.
