KINGSTON – Ulster County Government
Comptroller Elliott Auerbach’s office has conducted a study of the
county’s information services department after an earlier state
audit found it did “not have full accountability over the county’s
computer equipment.”
As a follow up, Auerbach conducted his own review of IT and came up with
recommendations.
“We have certainly put forth a tightening of the physical space that the equipment is stored in, the restoration of security cameras that were not active or in place at the time, the monitoring and control of who has access to that building and who, and when they go in and signing in and signing out,” he said.
Auerbach’s audit put an emphasis on a better beginning inventory and nailing down where each piece of equipment is located and who is responsible for it.  He also underscored the disposal side of the equation, including the hard drive and the information on it.
