KINGSTON – Two Port Ewen men have been arrested for allegedly engaging
in sex with a mentally handicapped young man visiting their residence
on Schyver Street in Port Ewen.

Authorities said Daryl Vandemark, 42, and his roommate, John Kindberg,
69, were remanded to the Ulster County Jail following their arrests.

Vandemark was charged with four counts of criminal sex act, all felonies,
and a misdemeanor of criminal possession of a weapon. Kindberg was charged
with endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled
person.

The charges stem from an investigation that revealed that on July 12,
the victim was visiting the two men’s residence. It is alleged that
Vandemark had forcible sex with him on more than one occasion on that
date while Kindberg watched but did not participate.

The victim was threatened with a knife during the incident and was told
not to tell the police.

Vandemark was committed to jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000
bond. Kindberg was remanded on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.

The investigation was conducted by State Police from the Highland and
Rhinebeck barracks and the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office.
