BREWSTER – The autistic Brewster Heights man, who went missing Thursday, was found in a wooded area Friday morning when a State Police helicopter crew spotted him in a wooded area.
Diego Alberto Salazar, 19, suffers from severe autism, which renders him verbally uncommunicative, and has other health issues that require medication.
His family called the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office late Thursday afternoon to report he was missing from his Allen Road home.
Over 80 personnel from New York and Connecticut were involved in the search, along with police K-9s and helicopters to search the heavily wooded areas.  The search efforts continued overnight and about 8:24 a.m. Friday, he was spotted about a half mile from his home.
He was reported to be conscious when found and did not appear to be injured. He was taken to Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel to be evaluated before he was to go home.
