MONTICELLO – The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office arrested three suspects in connection with thefts from the Monticello Farmer’s Market and the Monticello Greenhouse on East Broadway in the Town of Thompson.
On June 7 at about 11:15 p.m., a Monticello police officer spotted a vehicle loaded with plants heading westbound on Broadway in the village. The officer got the place number and on a hunch, checked the Monticello Farmer’s Market, which is just outside the village limits in the Town of Thompson.
At that location he observed that several potted plants had been disturbed and some were missing.  The officer notified the sheriff’s patrol, which interviewed the owner and determined that $486 worth of hanging plants had been stolen.
On Friday, June 19, deputies arrested Bobby Morgan, 30, of Monticello, Kristina Morgan, 28, of Monticello and Angelica Synder, 26, of Mongaup Valley. The three admitted taking 11 hanging plants from the Farmer’s Market and two bags of mulch from the Greenhouse. They were able to recover the merchandise.
“A $486 loss hurts a small mom and pop business,” said Sgt. Blake Starner, who supervised the investigation.
All three suspects were charged with petit larceny and possession of stolen property. They were released on their own recognizance pending a future court appearance.
