MOUNT VERNON – Two Mount Vernon youths
were struck by vehicles within a 20 minute span Sunday evening.

At 7:23 p.m., police officers observed a dirt bike being operated in a
reckless manner on the 300 block of South 1st Avenue.

The operator of the bike was heading the wrong way and riding on the sidewalk
when officers saw the bike strike a three-year-old boy. The operator dropped
the bike and fled on foot.

Police says they are familiar with the suspect and are actively looking
for him.

At about 7:40 p.m., officers were called to 237 South 6th Avenue after
a bicyclist was struck by a vehicle. Officers at the scene learned that
a 10-year-old area resident suffered a minor head injury. The driver of
the vehicle remained on the scene and cooperated with the police, who
said no charges will be filed.

The youth was transported to New Rochelle-Montefiore Hospital where he
was treated and released.
