POUGHKEEPSIE – Vassar College’s
new smoke-free, tobacco-free policy takes effect on July 1.

The college has prohibited smoking inside buildings and residential houses
for some time, but the new policy includes all outdoor spaces on the campus.
The policy applies to all tobacco and smoking products, including cigarettes,
cigars, snuff, chewing tobacco, and any non-FDA-approved nicotine delivery
devices or products such as e-cigarettes.

“The health impacts of secondhand smoke are well-documented. We
are doing this to ensure a healthy campus environment for the entire community,”
said Christopher Roellke, dean of the college. The bank includes students,
faculty, employees and visitors.
