ALBANY – The counties of Dutchess, Orange, Rockland, Ulster and Westchester will receive funds from the state’s Gun Involved Violence Elimination initiative.
The second year funding requires the use of proven strategies to reduce shootings and firearm-related homicides in communities.
Orange County will receive $753,379 primarily for the City of Newburgh Police and a lesser amount of that total for Middletown Police, as well as the District Attorney and Probation department and Sheriff’s Office.
District Attorney David Hoovler said the funds are targeted for two specific purposes.  The cities will use the money for hot-spots policing and CPTED and Newburgh will also use some of its funding for focused deterrence he said.
