NEW YORK – This summer’s recreational boating program will begin this Friday at four New York City DEP reservoirs – Cannonsville, Pepacton, Neversink and Schoharie.
The program is in its fourth year, attracting boaters to paddle or sail. For the first time this year, the rental program will be expanded to include rental boats at Cannonsville Reservoir. The rental program is administered by the Catskill Watershed Corporation and allows local businesses to store and rent creational boats alongside the reservoirs.
Boating season begins the Friday before Memorial Day and lasts until Columbus Day, from dawn until dusk. Boaters must have a DEP access permit that is available free of charge of the DEP’s website.
All boats used on the reservoirs must be steam cleaned by one of the 13 DEP-certified steam cleaning vendors located across the watershed.
