Police scour wooded area suspect in violent crime in City of Poughkeepsie

POUGHKEEPSIE – Police in the Poughkeepsie
area are searching a heavily wooded area near VanWagner Road and Bedell
Road in the Town of Poughkeepsie looking for a suspect in connection with
a violent crime in the City of Poughkeepsie.

Town Police spotted a vehicle late Monday morning that fit the description
of one stolen during the crime. Officers spotted the vehicle on Taft Avenue
and gave chase with the driver refusing to stop until he struck a tree
on VanWagner Road and fled on foot.

The suspect is possibly a white male, wearing light clothing.

Poughkeepsie Town and City Police, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s
Office and their K-9, Hyde Park Police as well as a State Police helicopter
and K-9 unit are searching for the suspect.

Residents and persons driving through that area of the Town of Poughkeepsie
can expect temporary road closures as circumstances warrant.

Residents in the immediate area are asked to call 911 if they observe
any suspicious activity in the vicinity of VanWagner Road and Bedell Road
or the wooded areas adjoining that general area.
