GOSHEN – Orange County Court Judge Robert Freehill set bail at $3 million for Angelika Graswald, 35, the Poughkeepsie woman charged with murder in the death of her fiancé.
A prosecutor told the court she admitted to tampering with Vincent Viafore’s
kayak and waited some 20 minutes after his overturned vessel sank to call
911. Viafore’s body has not been recovered from the Hudson River
where they were kayaking off New Windsor.
The assistant district attorney told the court Graswald said she felt trapped and that she stood to collect on Viafore’s $250,000 life insurance policy.
According to the ADA, Graswald said “It felt good to watch him die,” when questioned.
Viafore and Graswald were in separate kayaks at around 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 19. He was not wearing a life jacket.
